Renown Coaches Ltd - About us.

Renown Coaches has been operating as a family business in the Bexhill and Eastbourne area since 1962.

Bus 65 at Rolvenden StationInitially a private hire car, minibus and later coach business the Company first branched out into local bus services in the early 1980’s when it stepped in to rescue the Manxtree operation started by a group of ex-Maidstone & District drivers when the latter closed its garage and pulled out of Bexhill in around 1981.Manxtree later became the Bexhill Bus Company concentrating on services within Bexhill and Hastings and continued with buses until it closed its operations in late 1993 to concentrate on coaching once more as the business passed to the next generation of the family.

Seeking to expand the whole operation the Company once more moved into bus services in the late 1990’s by picking up local authority tendered services progressively and now operates a large fleet of service buses and coaches with an area of operation stretching throughout East Sussex. Currently local bus services and school contracts are operated, nearly all of which are on behalf of East Sussex County Council. From February 2010 the company re-launched its coaching operations and is now actively winning private hire work from many new as well as previous customers, and also in November 2010 the company once again commenced operating commercial services with the local 95 service being it’s first to operate.

Bus 43 operating the Service 11 to HailshamA major expansion of services began in 2006 with the setting up of Cavendish Motor Services to run commercial services in competition with Eastbourne Buses in Eastbourne and the surrounding area. Later in 2007 Renown also began to run commercial services in Eastbourne and at its height there were around thirty vehicles during the daytime providing an alternative network for travellers in Eastbourne. In the Summer of 2008 the Company ceased to operate luxury coaches believing that the returns from operating private hires Bus 16 at Forest Hall and day excursions where insufficient to warrant investment in new vehicles. The Cavendish operation in Eastbourne was sold off to Stagecoach in January 2009 and the Company has reverted to concentrating on the operation of East Sussex County Council contracts. With the renewal of the contracts in the Lewes/Newhaven/Seaford area in July 2009 the Company purchased four new low floor buses. A fifth was purchased on the winning of an Essex County contract in the Saffron Walden area at the same time when a new outstation was opened to operate the contract.

The Company continues to grow and look for opportunities to expand and consolidate its operations in the future.
